Bird Banding and Capture

OTS provides bird capture services for projects which require capture of wild birds, such as bird banding, relocation, tracking, and colour banding. The OTS team possesses decades of experience in safe and ethical capture of wild birds across the diverse range of bird groups, and we have the expertise to plan and deliver bird capture services customised to individual project needs.

Bird Banding

OTS is currently involved in numerous bird banding projects in Western Australia, and OTS staff have previously been involved in a diverse range of projects across Africa, Asia, Europe and Australia. OTS staff are trained to the highest level and possess decades of bird banding experience. Our banding projects have aided research and conservation, and led to discoveries in life history, demography, morphology and movements of birds.

Waterfowl and Raptor Relcation

OTS provides capture and relocation services for raptors, waterbirds, and other species occurring at airports which pose a high risk to aircraft.

OTS has been involved in several capture and relocation projects in recent years which have proved successful in reducing the presence of high-risk species at airports.

Colour Banding

In addition to standard bird banding, OTS also can provide colour banding projects to focus on movement studies via re-sightings of individual birds in the field. We have undertaken numerous colour banding projects, including the current colour banding of Silver Gulls on Rottnest Island.
