Bill Rutherford HND Conservation Management

Managing Director/principal ornithologist

On emigrating to Australia in 1999 Bill continued his career with Bird Life Australia as warden of Broome Bird Observatory (BBO). Drawing on 15 years experience in waterbird and wetland conservation based at RAMSAR and UNESCO listed wetlands in the UK Bill was able to further develop the goals of the BBO and integrate them further into the local community. Bill’s life-long passion of raising awareness of bird conservation issues to our community and training young Australians in the sector of bird conservation has been maintained since leaving BBO via his 19 year bird banding study of urban birds at Herdsman Lake. Bill has represented the Australian Government as the Regional ABBBS Organiser for WA since 2006 and was instrumental in setting up the Indonesian Bird Banding Scheme.
